Install Shalltear Engine

Requirements

The download page lists the systems Shalltear Engine runs on.

You also need a code editor for your C++ code. The editor finds Visual Studio Code on its own, and new projects come with settings for it. The download includes the compiler and build tools your code needs, so there is nothing else to install.

Download and run

  1. Open the download page and download the latest build. It is an archive file named after the build and its platform (such as Shalltear-dev-<commit>-windows-x64.zip).
  2. Extract it to a folder. Each build extracts into a folder of its own, so you can keep several builds side by side.
  3. Start the editor from that folder. On Windows, run Shalltear.exe.

Note

Builds are not code signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may show "Windows protected your PC". Select More info, then Run anyway. Antivirus software can flag new unsigned programs for the same reason.

The editor opens on the Project Hub, where you create your first project.

Check the download

The download page lists each build's SHA-256 checksum. To compare it with your copy on Windows, run this in PowerShell in the folder you downloaded to:
